Frederiksborg Castle

Notes:
  • In the 3 days we stayed, we come to conclusion that Copenhagen is the city of "5 minutes rain for 5 minutes sun"
  • The Frederiksborg Castle was magnificient with a breathtaking historic garden. It made the visit to Copenhagen worthwhile...
  • Copenhagen city center is surprisingly not very appealing... Outer suburbs seemed much more pleasant.
  • We stayed in the Absolon Hotel which was kind of a disappointment after Stockholm's Birger Jarl. However still OK.
  • Frederiksborg Castle is located 45 min to the city center, in a town/suburb called Hillerod. It stands on three islets in the middle of the Castle Lake and houses both the Museum of National History and the Castle Chapel which features the famous Compenius Organ.
  • We learnt: The Frederiskborg Castle was built in the early 17th century by Christian IV (one of the Kings of Denmark) and the Baroque garden was designed by Johan Cornelius Krieger.

Hej from Stockholm!

24-27 July 2007

The Old Town (Gamla Stan)

Notes:
  • We stayed in the heavenly, 4 star Hotel Birger Jarl. It is highly recommended. Try to catch one of their specials. The buffet breakfast was so good, we put on some weight because of it.
  • The Swedes are very friendly, humble, kind, and loving people with sense of humour. They speak English as well. So, there was no communication problems.
  • Sweden is part of European Union but Swedish Kronor is still in use, instead of Euro. 1 Swedish Kronor is approx. 1/6th of Australian Dollar
  • Sweden is known with and proud of its modern design concepts. The country is extremely environment friendly and working hard to preserve the environment and the history...
  • Central Stockholm is a preserved 13th Century town (called Gamla Stan). The new and old isn't mixed.
  • We took a cruise tour called "the Archipelago Race". It was a sightseeing tour among Stockholm's islands and we enjoyed it tremendously.
