Selamat from Kuala Lumpur!

16 July 2007

We spent a whole day in KL, on our way from Brisbane to Paris. It was a nice warm around 30°C day.

We took the fast train to the city centre then took a daily hop-on-hop-off bus trip. That was a quite clever decision, since we got the chance to see a big part of the city in a short period of time.

The prices in KL is cheap, one of the the first things you would notice. It would be great to visit the place for a shopping spree!..
The very famous, Malaysia’s pride and joy, the Petronas Twin Tower was impressive (the photo below). Has a luxury shopping centre, in the first 5-6 floors. It is possible to take a lift to go to the top, but the access isn’t available on Mondays and guess what, we were there on a Monday… So, lets hope next time, if it is ever going to be one...

However the city’s main tower was available, so we climbed it J. KL tower is called “Menare KL”. An impressive 411m tall tower is the 4th tallest in the world. We had a good introduction to the city thru the Audio visual equipment we were provided with while visiting each window.

Haven’t got the chance to visit the forest reserve surrounding the Menara KL Tower. It is a good size, tropical rainforest in the middle of the city. I found the green to be greener in KL, and the tropical rainforest fauna is spectacular.

A view of the city from the Menara KL

The city has got an area defined as the “Green Belt” which includes the KL Lake Garden, National Monument, Butterfly Park and the Bird Park and is very beautiful.

Some facts: Took the KLIA Express (train) from the airport to the city centre. It takes 28 min.

The currency is called: Ringlet, and worth 1/3 of an Au$

That’s all from the KL.
